Old Clyde Railway station

Spring weather is always unpredictable ,with temperatures soaring into the 20s last week. Saturday though was a lot cooler , but at least it was dry. Although when the sun peeked out from behind the clouds , it certainly warmed up, before hiding behind the clouds again. A turnout in the low 30s for a walk from the Clyde railway station was a surprise, as we had our group of aspiring walkers away for their trip into Mount Aspiring park. They report they got good weather and had a great walk. No heavy rain ,floods or avalanches. It really was third time lucky.

At Clyde Just 2 runners set off, John and his shadow ,who ventured down the river track to Muttontown , looping up to the lookout and return. He is looking for a full turnout of runners this Saturday. The W1s headed across the river and above the Clyde dam ,up towards the cell sites up there, before returning. A few scrapes and scratches but all made it back in one piece and on time to the railway station. The W2s & W3s both headed up the track to the water tanks and lookout over Clyde. The W2s carrying on to Dairy Creek , managing to find a fence to climb over, then following the lake and river downstream. They got to Miners Lane reserve and young Jack thought he would get to play on the swings. But the older more experienced kids got there first. I am not sure if some of the older kids stayed around to play on the swings or not , as the pack appeared to lose a few members by the time they got to the Clyde bridge. They went down the river a little further before climbing up to the camp ground and then back to the railway station ,where they found the lost kids had found their way home. All were back on time with plentiful afternoon tea for all..

This Saturday is our closing day outing for the 2023 harrier season. Please meet at 11am at the Ice Inline car park off Poole road , where we will head off for a local walk. Upon our return the big cats , The Lions should have caught a few rats and rabbits to cook up for your lunch , ( I’m not sure what they’re cooking up , I know it’s not whitebait) serving about 1:30pm at the Alexandra Bowling club. If you have not booked your lunch you can try your luck bowing and scraping to Barrie ,but better do it now. I am not sure if our president will be there though. He has been chilling out again at Scott Base and has sent in a photo of the RNZAF 757 which had broken down again.

Could be a couple of spots of rain Saturday morning ,but the weather should improve during the day. Hope to see you on the walk ,if not will see you at the Bowling club feeding your face
