Mystery outing this Saturday

For those up with the sparrows last Saturday, you would have noticed the rain ,the sleet and the snow showers blowing over Alexandra. For those who stayed in bed longer it was just a cloudy cool day. So by Harrier time ,there was a turnout in the mid thirties ready for a mystery outing , many wearing jackets ,to cutout that lazy southerly breeze.

And so it was car pool time , out to the rail trail car park just past the Chatto Creek pub. Then it was across the road , up the hill following the pipeline, then meandering in and out the gullies as we followed the water race round to Chinky Gully and the aqueduct. Whether they were supposed to go in there I am not sure. If not maybe I need to revise last week’s email in a louder voice. Then it was on up the road up the hill into the new subdivision , towards the Manuherikia river. Although I do not think many saw the river ,as it is a steep sided gorge in this area. It was one of those there and back outings , The W1s starting with 14 ,the W2s 16 ,then it was 15 each , then 16-14 and by Chinky Gully it was who knows as groups spread out ,merged ,split up again. However everyone seemed to enjoy this new bit of ground, the long term club members will remember running in the area before subdivision times ,starting at the pub, coming out of Chinky gully and returning to the pub. All were back on time for afternoon tea.

This Saturday is the penultimate Harrier outing for the 2023 season. The Aspiring walkers are going to have a final attempt at their walking trip into Mount Aspiring. If the weather does not play ball again , I guess we will see them joining us. Meet 1:00pm corner Walton & Thompson Streets to car pool out to the Old Clyde Railway station at the end of Fraser Street Clyde (4 Square shop corner ) Those attending asked to bring a small plate

Following Saturday is closing day at the Alex Bowling club .If you have not yet booked your lunch ,contact Barrie on 021 445 918and deposit $30 into harrier bank account

Hope to see you this Saturday as long as work keeps it’s distance . Spring weather can be quite unpredictable , we will see what can be done. The weather man says showers should clear , but it will not be as warm as the rest of the week
