Finding gold at Bendigo , or a beer

Midweek last week had us all somewhat surprised with a late spring snowfall. Not that it hung around for long ,but it was cold and a boon for those plant sellers , who will get to sell another set of plants to those early gardeners.

Two carloads of harriers headed up to the Bendigo area on Saturday morning ,to take in the Kanuka track. This track was not as long as the half marathon the previous week , but does have undulations (read hills ) and walkers had to watch where they were putting their feet  due to uneven ground underfoot.

About 25 runners and walkers car pooled up at 12:30pm . The runners set off on the Kanuka track ,to run down those early walkers. The remaining walkers set off along the Aurora track from Welshtown , splitting into 3 groups along the way They followed the track down to Logantown  before returning to Welshtown via the Matilda battery track. Another great harrier outing under blue skies and we didn’t lose anyone down the mine shafts.

There was some concern there was not much afternoon tea , but then the cakes started  to appear , the  baking challenge must have been cakes this week.

Michael was keen to demonstrate his new electric car could make it up the hill to Bendigo. There was concern if he would have enough power , but he was sure he could plug it in to the Matilda  battery , if he could just find the plug. Once down on the road , he demonstrated  “Hoon Mode” .The following vehicle said they saw his car stop ,then shoot away , leaving a cloud of dust sitting above the road where the car had been.

Not sure if it was because it was a sunny day , or perhaps everyone had developed a thirst on todays walk, as there was a big turnout at Monteiths .

And so the end is near ,time to face that final curtain. This Saturday will be the final harrier outing for 2022. Meet opposite the Alexandra Bowling club in the Ice Inline car park at the earlier time of 11am. Please do not park in the Bowling club ,unless you want a bowling ball put through your car window. We will set off for a local walk or run, steering clear of any farmland due to lambing. We should be back by 1pm at the Bowling club for lunch.

If you want to book in your lunch ,cost is $35 , internet banking or cash. If you want to go to lunch or can no longer go, contact Barrie on 021 445 918 by Monday night at the latest . Those big cats need to sort out how much roadkill they will need to feed the hollowed leg harriers. Lunch will be at 1pm  ish (meaning plus or minus 40 minutes but more likely plus )

Email is early this week , so late comers can notify Barrie on time and  I am heading out of town Monday. Long term forecast for next Saturday is for cloud , but warm 20 C .

So hope to see you on Saturday
