Listen very carefully ,for I will say this only once
This Saturday we will head to Olrig, Ophir or maybe Chatto Creek. Where ever you start , you will finish up at Olrig Station. For those keen to do a long walk from Olrig to Ophir ,meet 10:15am corner Walton & Thompson streets ,to car pool out to Olrig Station. This is a long walk 18-20km ,so a good level of fitness is required. Bring lunch ,water and a jacket in case it’s cold. Some take their mountain bikes out ,keen bikers meet 11am at Alex , 11:30 at Olrig - to Ophir via Tiger hill 46km led by Joe S. and return by rail trail ( mad keen bikers I’d say ) For those with E bikes join Jo W same time and place ,but will skip Tiger hill bit and 38km ride. If all goes well they may have time for a coffee in Omakau. (slightly less mad bikers ) Disregard the syllabus, everyone else will meet at 12:30pm to catch the bus to your drop off point. The W2s will go to Chatto creek ,rail trail then cross country from the bridge. The W3s will stay on to Ophir and walk in to meet the W1s. I will head out to Olrig and put the Billy on for afternoon tea and meet the W2s. Everyone should be back at Olrig at 3:30pm for afternoon tea.

So what happened on Saturday at Auripo road. Well I can confirm that no one suffered from a vitamin D overdose ,as promised sunshine did not eventuate. The weather god advised that the farmers in Central Otago wanted more rain. They got some cloud and a little drizzle.. Which means not all our fine weather friends turned up , so not an overloaded bus this week All departed the farm shed and headed for the rail trail and viaduct across the river , hoping to catch the Last train to Clarksville. The train never arrived , perhaps a sagging bridge further up the line held it up. Thanks for the photos sent in , we can see the walkers ended up well spread out. No reports in from the rescue helicopter so I guess everyone made it back same and sound.
