Conroys or Bust!

It would seem spring is not far away ,as Saturday turned on the blue skies and sunshine for  our Harrier outing at Conroys Dam.

Sticking to the Covid 19 rules of keeping gatherings below 100 , we managed with  about 55 members turning up for the outing. There was a little uncertainty about afternoon tea , but decided in the end it was too late to change things. One group of walkers helped in this respect with their large social distancing. (see later )

The runners went over to the west side of the dam ,heading up towards the Obelisk before trotting back down past the lizard sanctuary , although the photo supplied seems to indicate a slow trot.

The W2 walkers split into 2 groups , one group staying on the left side of the dam and up the creek to Li Tze’s miners hut (Chinese miners  hut, just made the name up ),  before crossing the creek to the Conroys pub and returning back past the lizards. The other  W2s group  crossed downstream from the dam and went up the west side of the dam.

The W1s headed up the creek to Li Tze’s hut, then heading back onto the track up to One Tree Hut, a long walk. There was a bit of a revolt  at the Chinese miner’s hut as a couple of the walkers broke away to the other side of the gully with a couple of wandering woggers  ( walking joggers ). They made the right move as the W1s were late back.(Social distancing alright ,nearly everyone had gone by the time they got back) except for those still waiting for a ride home. The breakaway group headed past the pub and up to the lizard sanctuary. They started following the fence round before wise heads decided it was a bit steep ,and going back would be the smart move.

So everyone back for afternoon tea on time except for Peter D’s group, who decided to go just a bit further past the one tree hut.

Good for social distancing –not so good if you wanted a cuppa.

I  believe Jo still has a few T shirts left at $15 , money first I’m told.

Clyde Alex road race  Saturday 5 September ,still looking for volunteers , put your name down on Jo’s list to help out

Barrie will be running a grocery hamper raffle for the 10k race and so is looking for donations of non perishable grocery items, bring along a can or packet of something for the raffle.

We are back under covid 19 level 2 restrictions –the club has had a covid 19 QR code printed , you will need to download the government’s Covid 19 app  https://tracing.covid19.govt.nz/      to scan the QR code. You will need the app if going to the shops this week as well.

Remember if you have been unwell (had a cold or flu ) please stay at home ,do not come along and share it with the harriers.

This Saturday we are going to the end of Waikerikeri road for a wander in the hills. Meet corner Walton & Thompson streets at 1:00pm to car pool out in your bubbles , with M-Zs duty pack this week.

Note -  it is likely that you will get wet feet this week, so a spare pair of shoes and socks could be a very wise move.

Also remember to check your watch or phone  , so you know if you will be back  on time   for a cuppa.

Otherwise the weather should be ok , so will see you there
