And now, the end is here

Gosh, he’s late with this week’s email isn’t he.

Last Saturday was the final outing for the 2020 harrier season , with a final local walk /run. And judging by the security camera shot a good turnout to lunch , regardless if it was a free lunch or not.

President Jo did her best to thank all for what has been a very difficult season to organize  ,although I did hear that W3 pack leader Jill Paulin made a better job of thanking everyone. Better watch out Jill, you may be lined up for presidential duties.

It was a very uncertain year with Covid 19 , uncertainty at the beginning ,as to if we would even have a season.  And then if we would be able to get any longer trips in. It has been surprising that we have still covered so much ground with walks in and around Alexandra area.

So you will all have to find something else to occupy your Saturday afternoons . I understand there are a number of different groups who go out on different days. Monday walkers , Wednesday offroad walkers and no doubt Tuesday ,Thursday and Friday groups.

The committee has had a meeting to tie up the end of the season and pass on some info to our members.

Next year we will send out our club’s Health & Safety Policy and Procedures ,last updated about 15 years ago.

We  will remind you we all have our own individual responsibilities on our outings, as well as the club overall.

We will also provide some guidelines on what to do if someone gets lost , or keels over.

Despite our best efforts ,we have not been able to lose any  of you yet.

What are you doing Queens Birthday weekend 2021 ?

The club has booked out a 24 bed hut on Stewart Island on the Rakiura Track. Preliminary thinking is to travel to Bluff on the Friday afternoon. Stay the night at Backpackers in Oban $30. 2 nights in track huts $22 per night . Then another day and a night at the Backpackers and then ferry back to Bluff and home on the Tuesday. Ferry return about $150.

This is just to give you all a heads up ,time to start saving your pennies if interested. Cost of travel ,food etc so likely to be $300 or  more. The club will try to get more accurate costs to you early next season. We are just floating the idea so you can all think about it over the summer. I am told it will be less windy in June and the sandflies also take a holiday so should not be too much of a problem.

Finally we would like to invite you all to a pre Christmas get together, to sooth your parched throats, at Montieths Bar on Sunday 6 December at 4:00pm

I will try to  remember to send a reminder out closer to this date.

Keep on walking and running and  I hope to see at Monteiths early December

You should be able to relax now as you will get a break from these emails for awhile.

Take care all.
