Local Outing

Greetings all, well we are already nearly into the 6th Month of the year, how time flies.

Around 30 members turned up at Centennial Park for a local outing on Saturday under cloudy skies, but still pleasant enough for a walk or run around the neighbourhood.

The W3 walkers did a circuit of the town’s pubs and cafes, well they may have gone somewhere else, but why spoil a perfectly good rumour. The other walking group headed up the rock garden onto the water races, to explore some of the early gold mining dams in the area. I think they were making up the names of the dams as they went along. The small group of runners headed down Doctors Point track, before heading up Graveyard Gully, before turning back to town.

Whilst all this was going on, about 20 members headed up to the Vincent Ski Club lodge at Coronet Peak for an explore in the Mr Dewar -Skippers area. Although they started out in fog, conditions did clear for some great views of the Queenstown area. A big day of walking for most, although we did hear rumours of some ski bunnies who only appeared late in the day for the après ski party. On Sunday they ventured up onto Coronet Peak itself. All appear to have enjoyed themselves judging from the following comment:

“Thanks all for a great weekend away, but in particular to Barb for her organisation and Peter for the great walking routes. Standing on top of Coronet Peak in frost and sun and having Peter provide a 360* panorama commentary (all the peaks) was amazing.“

Our club captain David and Maryon were also out walking, photos attached. I wonder if anyone can guess where?  The club is always looking for more runners, I am not sure that the advert attached from 30 plus years ago would get the same reception today.
